Orangetown Police said Edwin Nunez, 41, of Paterson, New Jersey, was found dead around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, inside a mixing machine at ICCO Cheese Co. in Orangeburg.
Nunez, who died of blunt impact and crushing injuries, had worked for the company, which makes grated cheese and bread crumbs, among other items, for about 18 months, according to the Orangetown Police who are investigating the incident as an accidental death.
OSHA's Tarrytown office opened an inspection on Jan. 15, the day of the incident, a spokesman said.
The inspection, which is currently ongoing, seeks to determine whether or not any workplace safety standards were violated, the spokesman said.
OSHA has up to six months to complete its inspection. It is too early to estimate a completion date for this inspection, they added.
The facility had not previously inspected by OSHA officials.
